Fastival

Level Summary


The level I worked on in Fastival is Big Top Bonanza. It is the third track and finale in the grand prix. It takes place inside fantastical Circus Tent. Race through the performance of the circus, then drive through the outskirts, passed the many storage tents. Load into the acrobat cannon and be shot into the rafters to get a prime view of the circus from new heights. Then take an incredible jump off the rafters, over the firework show and through the carnival games to finish a lap.

Design Goals:

Create a high energy level as the finale of the grand prix. Capture the awe and amazement feeling of walking into a giant circus tent as a child. Create a great landmark/weenie with the ring of fire, to give players a sense of location as they drive through the race.

Post Mortem

What Went Well?

Team worked really well together to create an image we wanted to replicate and acted on it.

Ring of Fire is a cool landmark that provides a great feeling when flying through it.

Communication amongst teammates about sections of level’s updates.

What Went Wrong?

Sightlines get a little distracting.

Track feels narrow in sections with sharp turns.

The balloon hazard doesn’t work too well as a means of affecting enemies ahead of you.

Even Better If?

Took a little more time in lengthening straights before creating too many turns to add sightlines.

Replaced the balloon hazard with a differing hazard that can affect enemies ahead of the player rather than blocking off your path.
